  • SENIOR MOMENT

Old age comes to us all - some sooner than others!!!  On my last blog I have put the wrong address to get to see my photographs - this is now the correct address.

www.donaldking.spaces.live.com and you will see new pictures of the modified bike.

  • MEMEBRS OF PARLIAMENT & cycling

Like many people I am totally hacked off with our MPs and beleive that they are in the job for what they can get out of it - no longer a case of helping their fellow man but more a case of helping themselves.  Gorbals Mick is the latest to cost you and me the sum of £1.7m for redecorating his house!!  Included in this is air conditioning, at a time when millions in this country can no longer afford to heat the house they live in never mind to cool it down on the odd hot day we have.

This is after his abuse of air miles and in my opinion the soner he goes the better.  Mind you he may be replaced by someone even more greedy than he is - it is possible.

Cycling trip to France I have had to rearrange as I have not been able to raise the sponsorship money required - I have rescheduled to cycle in September so it gives me some more time to get sponsorship in.

Bike is much lighter and I cycled today at just over an average of 10mph - best for some time.  Will be stepping up my training and am going on a calorie controlled diet as from tomorrow.  Currently 12st 3.5lbs and I am hoping to lose about 1 stone over the next few months with sensible diet and extra exercise - will kep you posted.

A couple of teething problems with the bike and would hope to get them fixed  over the course of this week.  New pictures of the bike following its work on web site:  www.myspaces.live.donking so check it out.

  • BACK AGAIN

I did not realise how long it has been since I last sat down and put down a few random/idiotic/random thoughts in my blog.  We have good and bad news - I will be writing every couple of days now -  so you have been warned.

Part of my excuse has been that the bike has been off the road and is being rebuilt etc.  I have taken my lightweight road bike and stretched it by adding a few parts from my recumbent and I now have a lightweight recumbent bike with bigger thinner wheels and smoother tyres.  In theory this should help me with the cycle especially the hills which you all know I love!!

I will include full details of the rebuild and photographs with my next blog.  It will finally be finished on Tuesday/Wedneday so then the serious training begins.

Sponsorship for the Witlshire AIr Ambulance continues to come in and huge thanks to Chris CLayton (General Manager Lisa Bakery) for his £20 contribution it is really appreciated.  My friends Keith and Diana Davis contributed £30 towards the cause - we go back a long way - nearly 30 years!!

Total sponsorship is now at £268.00 towards my total required of £1100 - so not too far to go.

Held a Darts competition at the Yew Tree Inn (Cam,Dursley) and raised a total of £64.00 - this was really excellent.  What a great place to go for a pint, everyone is so friendly.  I won the darts competition - no it was not fixed, just think others played below form.  Danny Bocking (never met before) was second and very generously donated his winnings to the Air Ambulance fund and others in the pub also gave cash.  My thanks to everyone.

Will have pictures of bike makeover soon.

    Take care and stay safe.

  • time / plastic bags

Everybody tells you after someone has died that time is a great healer - not sure I beleive it.  It is three years since my Dad died and it feels just like yesterday.  You still have the same pain, you still remember all the things you miss, not being able to speak to him, or visit, the things he used to say and do and you think of him every day.  I guess with time you probably manage to put it into some sort of perspective but it is still not easy.

I went shopping today and did not take any plastic bags from the supermarket.  I have been following the campaign by the Daily Mail and I was delighted how quickly M&S signed up to give their support.  We can all do a little to help the others that we share our planet with - life on Earth should be good for all the creatures and not just us.  Why do we think we have the right to do what we wish irrespective of the consequences to others.

We need to all look and see what small step changes we can make in our life to stop us from living in a throaway, selfish society without a care for anyone apart from ourselves.  We need to make sure that we leave a planet for those who follow us in a better condition than we inherited - each of us can help and stop using plastic bags is a start.

Once again some more moeny for my sponsored cycle to Paris and Mark Aston, Bakery Manager at Bradford has sold some of my recipe books and collected £35.00 so far - he has asked for more books - it really is appreciated.  Kerry, a work friend of vanessa has bought a recipe book and a further £5.00 has been added.  THIS MAKES A RUNNING TOTAL OF £152.50 - very good but still a long way from the £1100 needed by June 2008.

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far and the Wiltshire Air AMbulance will make good use of every penny.

    Take care and stay safe
