    One for the Women.....

    Subject - The shopping trip

A woman was in town on a shopping trip. She began her day finding  the most perfect shoes in the  first shop and a beautiful dress on sale in the second. In the third  everything had just  been reduced to a  fiver when her mobile phone rang.  It was a female doctor  notifying her  that

her husband had just been in  a terrible accident and was  in  critical condition and in the ICU.  The woman told the doctor to inform her husband where she was and  that she'd be there as soon as possible.

As she hung up she realized  she was leaving what was shaping up to be her best day ever in the  shops. she decided to get in a couple of more

shops before heading to the  hospital.

She ended up shopping the  rest of the morning, finishing her trip with a cup of coffee and a  beautiful  coffee slice complimentary from the last shop.

She was jubilant. Then  she  remembered her husband. Feeling guilty, she dashed to the hospital. She  saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about her husband's  condition. The lady doctor glared at her and shouted, "You went ahead and  finished your shopping trip didn't you! I hope you're proud of  yourself! While you were out  for the past  four hours enjoying yourself in  town, your husband has been languishing in the  Intensive  Care Unit! It's just as well you went  ahead  and finished, because it will be  more than likely the last shopping trip you ever take! For the rest of  his life he will require round the clock care.  And you'll  now be his carer!"

The woman was feeling so  guilty she broke down and sobbed..........

The lady doctor then  chuckled and said, "I'm just pulling your  leg.

He's dead. What did you  buy?"

  • baby pigs - AAAAAAAHHHHHHH

Last week I had the chance to go with my friend Noel to move a sow and her 5 piglets from one filed to another area - much easier said than done.  Mummy did not really wish to move and the babies just wanted to run in the opposite direction it took three of us a little time to achieve our desired aim.  To make it more difficult the sheep also wanted to join in as they thought they were going to be fed!!!  It is the first time I have been close to piglets of less than 5 days old.

Noel was saying that farmers are really finding it difficult this year as the cost of feeding for all animals has risen significantly.  i guess this is why we hear of farmers going out of business and cheap imports are what we find in our local supermarkets.  I do hope this will improve soon.

I have put some photographs on the following site including the sheep and pigs.

Weather here is very wet and cold and makes us wish for the milder days we had in October - soon be Christmas and hopefully we will get some snow.

  • MUGS, LOCAL AUTHORITIES, ELF n SAFETY.

Just been reading the Mail today and at long last ROSPA has decided to comment on the "elf and safety" and thankfully at long last they NOW say what most of us professional safety specialists have been saying to our clients for years.  It is important to undertake risk asssessments but you need to remember that you can not elliminate risk completely.  For young children growing up you need to give them an opportunity to learn by mistakes but in a controlled environment.

At work, whether in industry, construction, education etc, a balance is required between Legislative requirements, the need to undertake a specific and the elimination or reduction of risk.  Many people find it difficult to understand that you can still undertake a task that has an element of risk while complying with legislation.  The other side of the coin is equally as bad in that people ignore a risk exists and carry on regardless.

Hopefully we will now stop seeing the mad "elf N safety" stories in the press but somehow I doubt it.  Like many things it appears to be local councils that have the daft ideas, they go over the top and I am beginning to wonder if it is a "special" type of person that works in local authorities?  You read so much about their mistakes, days absent from work due to illness, daft ideas when handing out money etc, and the wages being paid for many jobs.  Worse still, it is our money they are using.

I guess I just get incensed at the way money, resources etc are wasted by our local authorities and government without a lot of consideration about our needs -and we are the people paying their wages.

Well I guess that is enough of a rant for today - I could go on for hours and hours but life is too short.

  • SUSTRANS & weather

Thanks to Jan who has advised me to look at the SUSTRANS website to find a suitable cycle route.  I have looked at the site and it looks as if I will be spoilt for choice.  Many of the routes are traffic free, which thankfully means no caravans will be present.

I am also wondering if anyone out in the stratosphere or wherever the web is has any zany ideas for a cycle route, the more outlandish route etc the more likely people will be willing to sponsor for a very good cause.

Weather is on the change (according to TV) so I guess it will be another excuse for me not to start training.  I guess I need the route first, then the charity and then, and only then I may feel a need to train.

I am closing my charity web sites for this year in the net few weeks and would like to thank all who have contributed to the causes.  If anyone wishes to contribute then they can do at:

  • INSPIRATION - FIREWORKS

Still looking for ideas to do a cycle in 2008 but not much luck.  Watched the New York marathon on TV yesterday and like everyone thought Paula was amazing - to have run like she did after having a baby is truly fantastic.   It puts us all to shame to see how some people can do so much and seem almost not to be human.

If we ever needed inspiration and felt ashamed that we do not do enough, we feel tired, it is such an effort etc, etc then we just need to think about the late Jane Tomlinson who while suffering from cancer raised over £1.7m for charity.  We have all seen her on TV in the marathon, cycling across the UK and talking about her illness - a truly inspirational person.  Now I want to get back into training with some goal for next year.

Weather is very good for this time of year - just taken the two dogs out for a walk and it was magic - no rain, fresh and the colours of the trees are spectacular. Fly, my collie hates this time of year as he is terrified of the fireworks and gets really uptight when they go off.  He finds it difficult to settle, tries to hide under tables etc and his tail is between his legs.

Trixie, Vanaessas dog, is not bothered and I am sure she wonders what Fly is worried about and she just gets on with her life - sleeping on the sofa!!!!

While this is the time to enjoy fireworks just spare a thought for pets, horses and all animals and make sure they are not outside or ner fireworks. Also rememebr to play safe, fireqorks are dangerous and if you follow the firework code you will not be injured.  Every yearwe hear horrific stories of people injured with fireworks - and like mot things the injuries can be avoided.

Must stop as I need to send out invoices for work done last month - no invoices sent out, no money comes in, no food, no life - so basically like everyone we work to live.

    Take care and stay safe

  • NEED IDEAS PLEASE

Just sitting here watching TV and thinking how little exercise I have been doing recently.    last yearI had something to aim for with the charity cycle but now with no challenge I am too lazy to get out and train.

I am looking for ideas for another cycle - so if anyone can come up with something I will be glad to consider it.  Preferrably not a 7 day cycle - possibly a weekend  - something different - hopefully flat - in the UK - and around June to Aug time.  Not much for you think about but I really would appreciate any ideas you may have.

I have been thinking about what I could do but have not had many bright ideas (nothing new about lack of ideas).

I am going to stop now but will write more on Sunday
