  • BANK HOLIDAY; ELECTIONS; WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNDDDDDDD

Bank Holiday again and the weather here is not great.  Very strong winds yesterday and today has meant that I have decided not to go out cycling.  I know that if it is a very strong wind in August I do not have a choice but I guess I can live with that.

Have not been able to find out the reason for naming devils lane as such but will keep trying - obviously it is a devil for cycling up.

Have booked to do the Bristol cycle on Sunday 24th June 2007.  I have chosen the CLevedon CHallenge which is 38 miles and the following weekend I am hoping to take part in the Exmouth Challenge.  The Exmouth challenge leaves Bristol at around 10.00pm and then cycles through the night to Exmouth a distance of around 100 miles.  Should be fun!!!

Thankfully all the elections here and in France are over and I guess there is enough to keep everyone happy.  Mabye we can now get back to normal with TV and Newspapers.

I hope the weather improves and can get out cycling again.

Take care and stay safe.  If you wish to sponsor please choose a link from below.

  • SUN, CYCLING, VERTICAL HILLS - devils lane

Went for a cycle on Saturday - how can I begin to describe the weather: excellent, excellent, excellent - guess you can see it was HOT and no wind (magic).

Went for a different route althlough it is roughly the same distance as normal but not quite so flat (more later)  Cycled for 7.94 miles, with a maximum speed of 31mph, and at an average speed of 11mph which considering everything I am very pleased with all of the cycle.

EXCEPT - about 1/2 mile from the house I cycle!! up devils lane.  This a 25 mile long vertical hill (1/2 mile and steep!!)  it is like cycling straight up a wall and then just when you reach near the top, it gets b* steeper, almost as if you are falling over.  I guess it is well named although I do not know the origin of the name.  I never walked up any part of the hill, but I did have three stops - even so I felt great although I was quite tired when I got home - hot bath was sooooooooooo nice.

Please rememeber to sponsor, if you have done so many thanks:

Bike has been off the road and into the workshop for repairs.  As it is a home built bike in Poland many years ago it does not have normal configuartion therefore repairs can be difficult.  Repairs this time took almost 1 week and cost £44+ - at elast the bike is now going.

Cycled 6.7 miles yesterday at an average of just over 11mph.  I felt good at the end of it so over this Bank Holiday weekend I intent to get some more miles under my seat!!!

Time is fast approaching for the ride so the pace and distance of the training needs to increase.

Will keep you informed and will be writing the Blog every day so please keep coming back.
