A week has passed since my last cycle - I have been working so hard and did not have the time or the energy to go out and train. So today should have been a nice gentle ride in the beautiful sunshine - wrong.
Last night we went out to our local hall - Cromhall Village Hall to attend a quiz/currynight for one of the local play groups. We had a great time; our team were third in the quiz and four out of seven at the table won something in the raffle. The curry was absolutely delicious but almost immediately it activated my ulcer and I sufferred like anything during the night. The pain was very intense and get me awake for large parts of the night.
Got up still in some pain but decided to go out on my bike - managed about 6 miles and was vilontely sick, cycle some more and the same again. I decided enough was enough and cycled back to the house. I guess the moral of the story is that Bud and curry, plus a bacon buttie during the day are not ideal training preparation. Somehow at the time it all seemed a good idea.
The cycle itself went very well but my handlebars have come out of the socket - so sometime tomorrow I am going to have to do some serious maintenance work on the bike.
While out cycling I cam across 4 horses who did not want to pass me as the flag and streamers were fluttering in the wind. I had already stopped to let them past, but had to lay the bike down before they would pass me. It is funny that such big strong animals are spooked by simple things.
Watching some of the London Marathon today you can not help but be impressed with all the competitiors who are raising so much money for the myriad of good causes. We should all be gratefull for what we have and take some time each day to think of those who are not as fortunate as us.
Take care and stay safe and remember to help others where you can.
