  • SPOOKY HORSES, CURRY, ULCERS + GOOD WEATHER

A week has passed since my last cycle - I have been working so hard and did not have the time or the energy to go out and train.  So today should have been a nice gentle ride in the beautiful sunshine - wrong.

Last night we went out to our local hall - Cromhall Village Hall to attend a quiz/currynight for one of the local play groups.  We had a great time; our team were third in the quiz and four out  of seven at the table won something in the raffle.   The curry was absolutely delicious but almost immediately it activated my ulcer and I sufferred like anything during the night.  The pain was very intense and get me awake for large parts of the night.

Got up still in some pain but decided to go out on my bike - managed about 6 miles and was vilontely sick, cycle some more and the same again.  I decided enough was enough and cycled back to the house.  I guess the moral of the story is that Bud and curry, plus a bacon buttie during the day are not ideal training preparation.  Somehow at the time it all seemed a good idea.

The cycle itself went very well but my handlebars have come out of the socket - so sometime tomorrow I am going to have to do some serious maintenance work on the bike.

While out cycling I cam across 4 horses who did not want to pass me as the flag and streamers were fluttering in the wind.  I had already stopped to let them past, but had to lay the bike down before they would pass me.  It is funny that such big strong animals are spooked by simple things.

Watching some of the London Marathon today you can not help but be impressed with all the competitiors who are raising so much money for the myriad of good causes.  We should all be gratefull for what we have and take some time each day to think of those who are not as fortunate as us.

Take care and stay safe and remember to help others where you can.

  • F1, BBQ, Quiet roads

Went for a cycle yesterday - only around 7 miles but it was very good.  One of the first days I have been out cycling and forgot to take the camera.  So of course wanted to take some pictures - caught up on a guy cycling on a three wheeler bike.  He had been racing on the A38 and was winding down by cycling home - about 15 miles.

The weather was great - lovelly sunshine and hardly any wind - hope it will be like this in August.

Had fully intended to cycle today but watched the Grand Prix  That guy Hamilton is something special, I fully expect him to get a first place very soon.  This season is the best start for a long time.

After the race we had a BBQ which of course means you ned to have some wine - I think it is impossible to have a BBQ without alcohol - womder if there has been a scientific study into this - maybe I should research it, but first of all will need to get more wine.

Roads are nice and quiet as the kids are still on holiday - and mums taxis are not taking up all the road.  I guess it is difficult for mums to get children to school but far too many are only driving short distances and do not use the bus or their precious kids - could be the poor souls should not be exposed to public transport

Well need to stop as I have some work to do - again.

    Take care and stay safe.

  • APOLOGIES TO ALL GOLDFISH!!!!!

First I must apologise to all the glodfish in the world for suggesting in my previous Blog that they have a memory that is counted in nanoseconds.  Listening to Radio 2 today, the Jeremy Vine show  several people called in to state that Goldfish have a memory that lasts 9 months - you certainly learn something new every day.

Went out for a cycle today - never saw the Easter bunny but I averaged 10.7 mph, a distance of 26.26 miles and cycled for a total of 2hours 26 minutes and 2 seconds.  Top speed down the hill was 34.2 mph.  Weather was great, sun was out and only a very slight wind against me on the way back.

Thanks to my 3 personal trainers!!! I felt a lot better although my legs are feeling like jellly - guess need to warm up and warm down slightly more.  I now am starting to think and beleive that the cycle is possible and that I will not collapse in a heap at the end.  It is such a pleasure out cycling on a day like today.

Took a couple of photos today and they are on the site - link below - photos were nothing speacial but hope now the good weather is here I will remember to take more.  Not likely to be able to cycle tomorrow as I will be leaving at 0430 and not home to around 1900.

I am convinced the flag and streamers are working as cars gave me a wide berth today.

Many people are telling me they will sponsor me nearer the time of the cycle and that is great, however if some could please pledge some money now it may help us to get more sponsors in.  Thank you - and a big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far.  Your money really does make a difference.

    Take care and stay safe/

  • memory like a goldfish!!! .0000002 of a nanosecond

Went out for a cycle today and did the usual 6.7 miles but forgot to set computer for time etc; could be memory loss, old age or just me being an idiot!!

The cycle was very good - the sun was out, slight head wind but I felt very good,no cramp so must be heeding the advice of my 3 trainers!!

Today is a good day the Grand Prix is on and will need to get up for 0730 tomorrow to see the race live.  In addition, the boat race is on this afternoon - so a good day for sport.

Tomorrow I will go our for a cycle afer the grand prix but will not be too long as we have organised at short notice a farewell BBQ and have invited the neighbours - still no moving date but the weather tomorrow is supposed to be good.

Final part of the F1 qualifying is just starting so must stop now.

    Take care and stay safe.

  • SOMETIMES I AM GOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feeling good today after my cycle.  Was working unto arpound 3.00pm and when I came home I ate a tin of mackerel fillets (good brain food!!!)

Did the normal short circuit of 6.7 miles at an average speed of 11.5mph and downhill 24.9mph!!!
Felt pretty good, did not rush and enjoyed the lovelly Spring day.  Great to be alive on a day like this - you can't help but think of people who are not as fortunate as yourself and thank the lucky start you have good health.  So many people have health problems, and disabilities of all kinds and they manage to keep happy and focussed.  Sometime we do not know how lucky we are  .  ALso managed to take a couple of pictures and they will be on line quite soon.

One bit if bad news just as I got home the weld on my seat broke - need to take the bike to a Hospital for old and strange bikes.

One of the reasons for me feeling is that I have personal trainers - not one personal trainer BUT THREE>

My sister Dorothy, does quite a lot of running and has 1 personal trainer and as Dorothy does everything when, how and where she should she nevers suffers any aches, pains or cramps - she has given me some sisterly  advice about stretching, diet, warming up which I have tended to ignore.

Trainer No 2 is Vanessa (boss indoors) who last year ran the Bristol Half Marathon for the first time and is going to run again this year.  Now Vanessa, like all good wives nags, SORRY IGNORE THAT WIVES DO NOT NAG!!!!!  what they do is "they care for you" which means where possible they will try and help you by reminding you that you have certain things to do.  This includes telling me what I should eat, drink, stretching exercises etc etc.

Trainer No 3 is Sam Walker  who kindly sent me an e-mail telling me how to overcome the cramps, warming up and warming down, advice on what to eat, drink and even suggested I should wear STOCKINGS!!!! (not a pretty sight).

Having listened to them all I guess that is why I had such a good ride today????

  • CRAMP, THUNDER & HAILSTONES!!!!

Went for a cycle on Saturday and cycled to Dursley and back.  Total distance 23.18 miles at an average speed of10.3mph.  Was very pleased with the cycle for most things.

For people who know the area Taits hill just prior to Dursley is longish and steepish. Wile I was not able to cycle up it without stopping I managed to cycle it the whle way with three stops - I was very pleased with this - simple things keep simple people happy.

All the way to Dursley I had a strong wind against me which made the cycling very difficult and slow.  Again I was nearly hit twice by car drivers who for one reaon or another were ot paying attention to what was on the  road
    - ME.

Went to Kite n Skate in Dursley who made up a flag pole to help drivers see me in plenty of time - will add photos soon.  When in the shp we had thunder and heavy rain - thought I may have to spend the night sleeping rough as I do not like cycling in the rain.  Fortunately the rain stopped and I headed off back home.

Half way down Taits hill I lost my top flag  - well at least I had part of it for 1 mile - money well spent!!!

Cycling along the A38 some hailstones and the wind seemed to be against me again - is that possible

When I reached the hill to Tortworth (it is 10%) I remembered the last time I was here I walked up the hill and I was nearly dead by the time I reached the top.  Being brave/stupid/mad I decided that even although the wind was quite strong I decided I would not walk but cycle all the way with a few stops.  By the end I had more stops than planned but did cycle all the way
    - really made me feel good.  Unfortunately, cycling the last mile to the house I really suffered and by the time I got home I was ready to colapse in a heap.

I ran the bath and soaked in it for ages and I felt much better.

Today, Sunday I am feeling tired and slightly stiff so am otcclin.

Suffered again from cramp in my toes, shins and calf muscles.  Not sure why this is but my legs feel cold most of the time - this is not usual  for me as I feel the heat al the time.  I can get cramp in my toes puting or taking off my socks - how strange or does this happen to other people???

must go - keep well and stay safe.
