Went out for a cycle today - cycled just over 12 miles at an average of 10.6mph. Did not feel great at the end
of it and while the sun was out all of the time it was very cold again. My feet were like lumps of ice when I finished. As I was cycling through Wickwar a car cut me up and the look on the lady drivers face - suggested she had not seen me. How the h+++ can you miss an 8' long bright orange bike is beyond me.
About 3 mile frther on a man (one each) nearly hit me as well. I have a mirror and can see cars coming up behind me but it is very hard to say if they have seen me or not - I think people see me but do not see the need to indicate and pass wide. I have flashing red lights, flashing lights on a flourescent band and yet it seems I am hard to see.
I know that car drivers in the main are careful but their are a lot of idiots out driving. On the roads I am driving on I do not hold anyone up - I guess some people just do not like bikes
It seems I will need to do something else to make myself more visible - forgot to say I am also wearing a flourescent yellow jacket. Will think about some type of flag so that it will attract some attention - mind you I need to make sure it does not slow me down.
Just seen a poor cyclist hit on "THE BILL" so everyone think cyclist
Take care and stay safe and if you are a car driver - be kind to cyclists.

While I am not a cyclist I have to agree with you about some car drivers.
I was driving yesterday on a single lane road there were 4 cars behind me and we were all going along at a nice pace. I looked in my mirror and saw a fire engine coming up fast blue lights flashing so indicated and pulled over. Only 2 of the cars behind sped up and overtook me getting in the way of the fire engine ????
Don't people use the mirrors??
